Grant Awarded by West Lancashire Connexions, Positive Activities for Young People

(Youth Club Bank Account Opened and Parbold Youth Club was able to "stand on its own" for the first time)

23rd May 2007

Consultation Paper sent to Local Residents adjacent to the intended site of the proposed Parbold Youth Centre Project

(Hand delivered on the night of the The 2007 UEFA Champions League Final)

30th May 2007 Consultation Letter sent to Parbold Parish Council outlining the Parbold Youth Centre proposed project
25 - 29th Jun 2007

Parbold Youth Club Sailing & Diving Expedition in the Forth of Clyde. Sponsored by West Lancashire Connexions, Positive Activities for Young People, delivered by the Glaciere Social Enterprise Project, Liverpool, Merseyside.

This is recorded as it was a major event in the lives of our young people and made a huge difference to many. Thank you Connexions.

21st Aug 2007 Application Made to West Lancashire CVS Community Champions Fund for Planning Application Funding
4th Sep 2007 Planning Application Made for 3 Station Road Premises to convert into Youth Centre funded by Coffee Bar and Sports Shop
5th Sep 2007 Part 1 of Grant Awarded by West Lancashire CVS Community Champions, to fund Grant Application
18th Sep 2007 Grant Application made to Youth Capital Fund by young person on behalf of the Parbold Youth Centre Project.
27th Sep 2007 Presentation of Parbold Youth Centre Project made to Youth Council (The Grove, Burscough)
17th Jan 2008 Attendance at West Lancashire District Council Planning Committee Meeting in Council Chambers to give personal statement on behalf of Parbold Youth Club and to answer residents objections in person.
30th Jan 2008 Full Planning Permission Granted, BUT with Restrictive Condition disallowing the preparation and selling of hot food in the Coffee Bar
1st Feb 2008 Part 2 of Grant Awarded by West Lancashire CVS Community Champions, to fund main works estimates and Planning Permission Application to remove the restriction disallowing the preparation and selling of hot food
19th Feb 2008 Donation from Christ Church Parbold towards Youth Work - Thank you
23rd May 2009 Planning Application made to remove the restriction disallowing the preparation and selling of hot food
3rd Jun 2008 Grant Awarded by Parbold Parish Council to fund purchase of Personal Protective Equipment for Youth Centre Project
18th Jun 2008 Second Grant Application Made to Youth Capital Fund by young person on behalf of the Parbold Youth Centre Project (Informed that the application forms had changed and a new application was required)
27th Jun 2008 Visit to Parbold Youth Club by Youth Council to assess Youth Capital Fund Bid Grant Application
11th Aug 2008 Grant Application Made to Lancashire County Council Local Grants Scheme (Supported by Councillor Richard Shepherd) to fund the rent of the current hall used for the youth club on Friday Evenings
12th Aug 2008 Full Planning Permission Granted allowing the preparation and selling of hot food, against the menu submitted and extraction system design as submitted.
18th Sep 2008 Grant Awarded by Lancashire County Council Local Grants Scheme to fund the rent of the current hall used for the youth club on Friday Evenings
26th Nov 2008 Youth Capital Fund Presentation made by Parbold Youth Club in support of the Youth Capital Fund Bid
1st Dec 2008 Grant Refusal from Youth Capital Fund on the grounds that our project was very complicated and that Youth Capital Fund money was not there to help people set up a business
23rd Dec 2008 Donation from Christ Church Parbold towards Youth Work - Thank you
20th Jan 2009 Sizeable personal donation made to Parbold Youth Club by kind Parbold resident and community visionary
26th Dec 2009 Grant Application made to West Lancashire District Council Community Chest
6th Feb 2009 Grant Application made to Un-Limited (The Foundation for Social Entrepreneurs) for a Level 1 Award.
27th Feb 2009 Review meeting held with Un-Limited, Bradford
31st Mar 2009 Level 1 Grant Award made by Un-Limited towards the Parbold Youth Club Project to enable the project at 3 Station Road to start
Ongoing PYC Youth Services Trust submission papers being prepared for Charity Commission Registration (Complete when Enhanced CRB Checks Returned to required standard)
8th Apr 2009 Grant Awarded by West Lancashire District Council Community Chest
15th Apr 2009 Lead Recruiter for Enhanced CRB Checks appointed and accepted
26th Apr 2009 Recruiter for CRB Checks appointed and Enhanced CRB applications submitted for Recruiter and First Trustee
18th May 2009 Grant awarded from West Lancashire District Council Chairman's Lady's Charity
29th May 2009 Third Way Community Interest Company Declaration sworn (Our most grateful thanks to Mr Richard Peel, Solicitor with The Kennedy Partnership, Ormskirk) and Company Formation Documents posted to Companies House
2nd June 2009 First Preliminary Draft of Lease Agreement submitted to Landlord for review / modification / comments
3rd June 2009 Tom McManus contacted - Brighter Futures, Salford (Another Un-Ltd Sponsored Project) to see if they can take on some of the building work
5th June 2009 First Meeting at the Project Site with CVS, 3rd-Way Directors and Rev Simon Glynn to discuss project start-up (10:30am)
11th June 2009 Third Way Community Interest Company Incorporated in England and Wales, Company No. 6931107
12th June 2009 Third Way Community Interest Company accepted by the Community Interest Company Regulator
12th June 2009 Meeting at Project Site with Brighter Futures (10:30am)

Brighter Futures are now actively discussing with us the possibility of their undertaking the building work using the Un-Ltd Grant to get Coffee Bar trading as soon as possible and to engage in training of young people.

26th June 2009 Final Interior Designs prepared for Refurbishment
26th June 2009 Enhanced CRB Check Received for Mike Greggain under the auspices of the new Organisation (CRBs are not transferrable)
2nd July 2009 Enhanced CRB Check Received for Tim Cornah under the auspices of the new Organisation (CRBs are not transferrable)
3rd July 2009 Project Start and Designs Agreed with Brighter Futures.
7th July 2009 PROJECT START DATE - Building Work Commences - supervised and undertaken by Brighter Futures
September 2009 Brighter Futures Complete Main Works on building, leaving Kitchen, Youth Centre, exterior and Counter area to be completed.

Works slows due to lack of funds and remediation works on electrics and plumbing.

11th Dec 2009 Lancashire County Council "Pump Priming" grant from Cllr George Askew of Pendle - facilitated by Cllr Adrian Owens - enabling us to buy our cooker and coffee machine - thank you
19th Feb 2010 Lancashire Locals Grant arrived (organised by Grant Murdoch of Young People's Service in West Lancashire)

This enabled us to purchase items for the youth centre, kitchen and coffee bar and actually start up - thank you

1st March 2010 Open Pear Tree Coffee Bar & Youth Centre in "Trial" Mode (We are using "L" Plates....)

We have no idea how to run a coffee bar.

We are fortunate to have a trained chef, who is an expert in fine dining - but the rest of us are learners - please be gentle!

Feb / March 2010 Selecting Trustees and applying for Charitable Status for pyc youth services (Parbold Youth Club)
1st March 2010 Trial Period - Opening on "L-Plates" !!
1st April 2010 OFFICIAL OPENING

23rd May 2011 Re-Furbishment of the Community Cafe Starts

Thanks to the kindness of a local businessman who lives in Parbold - new team recruited to run and manage the cafe - we are also teaming up with Rijo42, a local coffee business to deliver high quality coffee, "smoothies", fresh orange juice etc... consistently and with minimal effort!

YOUTH CLUB REMAINS OPEN throughout the re-furbishment

Community Cafe Re-Opened as "Coffee Etc.."

11th August 2011 Visit of BBC Radio Lancashire to interview staff at the Community Cafe and showcase the achievements of the local young people in the face of the appalling civil unrest over the last few days. Young people CAN be a force for good as this project bears witness.
